This semester our Bible Studies have revolved around the Sermon on the Mount, and we're planning on creating an art piece/letter out of what we've learned thus far. Here are two different translations of the verses we concentrated on for you to ponder over the Christmas break. In January we'll come back and start to think how we're going to shift these beatitudes into visual form...

Original NRSV Translation:

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak: and he taught them, saying:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Another interpretation:

Blessed are those who need God and know it for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed are those who bear sorrow for they will be comforted.

Blessed are those who renounce their own rights for the sake of others for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for right-relatedness for they will be filled.

Blessed are those who lovingly respond to those who have offended them for they will receive mercy.

Blessed are those whose mind, will and feelings are transparent for they will see God.

Blessed are those who go pursue and make shalom for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are those who are troubled persistently for the sake of right-relatedness for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Blessed are you when people speak abusively of you, trouble you persistently, persecute you and speak all kinds of evil against you on account of Jesus.

Rejoice and be glad. For your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way they did the same to prophets who were before you.

OCF is holding our November event this coming Friday, November 12th. It's going to be a potluck of epic proportions, so bring a dish to share and come on out!

Fall times

OCF has decided on our times for the coming term for Bible Study and small groups.

The whole community will meet once a week to study scripture together in the inductive manuscript style. This will be on Mondays from 1:00pm-2:30pm in Room 642 of 100 McCaul. Feel free to bring your lunch with you too!

Then, girls will meet in smaller groups throughout the week. These will be a chance to just go for coffee and chat and get to know each other better.

The Monday Group will meet from 5:30pm-6:30pm on Monday nights. Meet Meghan in the front lobby at 5:30pm, and we'll go for coffee from there.

The Friday Group will meet from 12-1:00pm on Friday afternoons. Meet Rebecca in the front lobby at 12:00pm and we'll go from there.

Guys will also be meeting separately. Their group will meet on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm. Meet Andrew in the front lobby and he'll lead you on from there!

OCF to the Islands!

Hello blogosphere!

OCF is starting the year off strong with a grand kick-off event coming your way this

Saturday September 18th! Meet us at 11 AM by the front doors of OCAD so that we can TTC down to the ferry dock and head over to the Toronto islands together for

an old-fashioned church picnic, replete with cheesy games and massive amounts of food!
We'll hang out on the islands all day, picnic and generally get to know each other better before the school year starts.

Things you can bring include:
-frisbees! footballs! or futbals!
-blankets to sit on
-TTC fare to get to the dock, and $6 ferry fare

-Food to Share: This is a potluck, so please bring food to share with others. Just don't forget that we're on an island, in a park, so things that need cutlery, plates, refrigeration and lots of preparation probably aren't the greatest. Think finger foods and individually boxed liquids...

September 1st: Visit us at the 1st year Orientation Fair!

On September 1st between 12:30 and 3:30pm, OCF will be participating in the OCAD Orientation Fair held for new students to OCAD. We will have a table in the lobby of 100 McCaul Street that we encourage you to check out! Drop by, meet some of our current members, and learn what we're all about. You'll also get the chance to sign up for our weekly email newsletter, which will keep you in the know regarding our weekly Bible Studies and social events. Welcome to the webspace for OCAD Christian Fellowship! Hopefully you're here because you're curious about just who we are and what we're doing...

WHO is OCF (OCAD Christian Fellowship)?

OCF is an IVCF-associated student campus fellowship group made up of staff and students at the Ontario College of Art and Design). We meet on campus for weekly bible studies, prayer time, and fellowship over everything from beach volleyball to hearty Italian meals. We come from all walks of life and spiritual backgrounds to meet and learn more about our faith together.

WHERE does OCF meet?

OCF meets all over the place! Bible Studies usually take place in a classroom at school, and from there we hang out together all over the city. Sign up for our weekly email newsletter (see below to find out how!) to get in on the action...

WHEN does OCF meet?

Each term the day of the week that Bible Study is held changes, as well as the time. We let you know ahead of time via email. Dinners and other social things that we do together usually happen on Friday nights, but are also known to happen spontaneously...

WHO come to OCF?

Anyone can come out to OCF! All you need is to be interested in and curious about Christianity, or a kind of radical yet ordinary guy named Jesus (who we believe also happened to be the son of God) who lived 2000 or so years ago, and shook up the way that people saw the world. We're following his example for living our lives, and trying to figure out what that looks like together.
